Where: Regent’s
Park, NW1
What: London
Zoo is one of the finest ‘Zoos’ in existence, and is visited
by several million people every year. It was the first 'scientific
zoological garden' in the modern world,
founded
in 1824 and opened to the public in 1828 as
a way of funding the scientific work. The word 'Zoo'
only emerged in a music-hall song of the 1920s.
A
day at the zoo not only offers the ultimate back to nature
experience it also supports
the active conservation of many amazing species. At london
zoo you will get first hand experience of over 600 species
of amazing animals
including
lions, tigers, giraffes, monkeys, fish, spiders and
many, many more.
Watch the
penguins and pelicans embarking in some fishy goings on at feeding
time. Visit
the 'happy families' area, where you can see meerkats keeping
an eye
on their neighbours from rocky outcrops. Experience
the 'animals in action' display - 30 minutes of flying, foraging
and leaping action, with animals showing their amazing natural
skills and abilities. And younger visitors
will love (or scream at) an encounter with farmyard
favourites at the 'touch paddock' in the children's
zoo.
With all that
is on offer, there is something for everyone.
