Originally
intended as an entrance to Buckingham Palace, this ‘triumphal
arch’ was made too narrow for the State Coach and became a gate
into Hyde Park. Later, the park boundary was moved back, leaving
Marble Arch as an entrance to nowhere.

Edgware Road intersects Bayswater Road, stood Tyburn Gallows,
where public
executions took place until 1783.

Marlborough
House,
Built by Wren n 1709 for the great Duke of Marlborough, it reverted
to the Crown in 1817. Amongst its occupants have been Edward VII
when Prince of Wales, and George V until his accession. From 1911
until her death it was the residence of Queen Alexandra. Queen
Mary lived here when in London. Now a Commonwealth Conference Centre.
Adjoining the house is QUEEN’S CHAPEL 1627. designed by lnigo Jones.
