Where: Chelsea,
SW6
What:
Trendy,
fashionable (and expensive) Kings Road. Ignore Peter Jones (the
department store), pop in to the newly developed Duke of
York pedestrian precinct then walk farther
down
kings road
to find lots of smaller, independent clothes
and shoe
shops, plus the odd designer label charity shop (we kid you not)
and a good selection of contemporary furnishing stores selling
anything from wallpapers and
fabrics to
handmade
carpets and lighting (there's a great chandelier shop).
Antique / antiquities
hunters should head for Antiquarius (about a mile down kings
road from sloane square).
This beautiful building
is home to over 120 antiques dealers. Specialist areas include
Art
Nouveau
sculpture,
luggage,
silver,
antiquarian books, jewellery, textiles, clocks, prints, oriental
antiques, militaria, vintage watches and 19th-century paintings.
Kings Road
is also stocked with the trendiest eateries, and comes alive
in the evenings. Wander down the Kings Road on a hot summers
evening and play 'count the soft top Ferrari'.
