What: Housed
in a former
regency home of the romantic poet John Keats (he lived here
between 1818 - 20), this is a museum containing personal relics
and
information
on Keats
life and
works.
The charming
house, once two regency cottages, was the home of Keats during
a period when he wrote some of his finest poetry, including 'Ode
to a Nightingale'
which was written in the surrounding garden. The house contains
books, manuscripts and memorabilia associated with Keats, his fiancee
Fanny Brawne (including their engagement ring. Her family
lived in a larger house next door when Keats lived here) and
his circle
of friends.
Keats
House has recently achieved registered status as a museum.
It was also the top UK Poetry Landmark of the year in 2003.
