and cambridge boat race (the two races are usually held on separate
days) : Head
of the River Race
What: Oxford
and Cambridge Boat Race: the boat race is over 150
years old (the 150th race took place in 2004). It starts
from the university stone in Putney and finishes at Mortlake.
When: the race moved from its
previous Saturday lunch time to 18:00 on a Sunday in 2004.
Where: along
the thames from Putney to Mortlake. Best views
are from the Surrey Bank above Chiswick Bridge, from Hammersmith
Bridge or
any of the riverside pubs along the route.
Station: Putney Bridge for
the start or Hammersmith and Chiswick for the best views.
