The pound sterling (£) is the currency for the whole of Britain. It is divided into 100 pence (p). Bank of England banknotes are legal tender as well as those issued by the Scottish banks.

Notes are £1 (only in Scotland), £5, £10, £20, £50 and £100 (only in Scotland). The Scottish banknotes are also legal tender in the rest of Britain but are sometimes viewed with suspicion.

Coin values are 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2.

The Euro - although the UK has not adopted the Euro, many large stores and services will accept it in their larger branches. Look for a sign on the door or ask a member of staff.
