london for children

This page is dedicated to giving you the best things to do with children in London. There are lots of other things you can do but, we think, these are the things kids will enjoy the most.

The following links take you to a page with information on various things to do with children in london (the list is in alphabetical order):

Buckingham Palace - watch the changing of the guard for free or our best buy is to pay the smallest admission charge, go to the mews and look at the royal coaches
Ceremony of the keys (tower of london) - free, but prior application required and it happens at between 21:30 and 22:05 each night, but worth the wait ("whose keys?", "
Queen Elizabeth’s keys."!)
Covent Garden - street theatre at its best
Imperial War Museum - not an obvious choice, but they have great things for kids to do
Kensington Gardens London - in addition to the Peter Pan statue and the Round Pond boating lake, this is the home of the Diana, Princess of Wales' Memorial Playground - a fantastic adventure playground for kids up to the age of 12
London Dungeon - a museum of simulated historical horror, recalling events or atrocities from the past. Not recommended for the nervous or for very young children.
London Planetarium - next to Madame Tussaud’s, a virtual reality trip through space.
Toy and Model Museum
- an extensive collections of commercially made toys and models, including antique toys, working models and penny slot machines.
Transport Museum
- hands-on working exhibits (buses, tram cars, trolley buses) plus the very latest interactive displays.
London Zoo - one of the
worlds oldest (and best) zoos, with over 600 species of amazing animals, including lions, tigers, giraffes, monkeys, fish, spiders and many, many more.
Madame Tussauds - the world famous waxwork exhibition, via interactive exhibits you can also sing with Kyle, kick with Johnny or try out as a Pop Idol, to name three.
Museum of London - explore the history of london in this excellent (free) museum
Natural History Museum - hands-on working exhibits, the very latest interactive displays, a diverse range of collections and a regular programme of events and activities. Also free.
Shakespeares Globe Theatre London (admission charges)
- for older children, an exact replica of the original with interesting and fact filled tours offer a glimpse of tudor england. They also put on plays in a similar style to those organised by shakespeare himself.
The London Eye (admission charges) - this should be near the top of the 'to do list' of any trip to london, with or without kids. Get a birds eye view of london from this giant ferris wheel.

Tower of London
- (admission charges) a castle, prison and the site of many infamous murders and beheadings. The guides are dressed in tudor costumes and called beefeaters and you can see the crown jewels, including the largest diamond in the world. What more could a child want?
