About: The Proms are a huge, annual classical music festival based in London's Royal Albert Hall. In between mid July and mid September each year there are 8 weeks of daily concerts, including upwards of 70 evening concerts in the Royal Albert Hall. The concerts feature some of the worlds leading classical musicians, conductors and performers.
In addition, there is a whole host of ancilliary events, including several 'proms in the park' (many of which are outside London). There is also a 'children's prom' (2004 has a disney theme) and 'the nation's favourite prom', where popular works selected by the organisers (such as the 1812 oveature) are mixed with some of the publics choice of their favourite pieces.
The 2004 proms season will include performances from bass-baritone Willard W White, violinists Sarah Chang, Joshua Bell and Maxim Vengerov, pianist Alfred Brendel, percussionist Evelyn Glennie and conductors Sir Simon Rattle and Bernard Haitink.
