Where: Camden
Passage, N1
What: Antiquities
and antiques collectors should head to this north london
area.
From speciality shops with fine silver, paintings and priceless
works
of art,
rare books, military items, glass and porcelain, buttons and
needlework tools, boxes, and fans to junk shops that sell everything,
Camden Passage has it all.
Camden
Passage (not to be confused with Camden Market or Camden Lock
Market) is one of London's best antiques
markets. The
stalls are
jammed
full of
antiques,
rarities
and books. It's a great
place to soak up the bustling atmosphere, even if you don't
want to buy anything.
At the northern
end is the Georgian Village Arcade, more stalls crammed into
small booths on two levels selling silver, toys,
and jewellery. At the southern end is
The Mall with fine art and prints.
Most of the shops along Camden Passage also specialise in various
types of antique furniture, silver, textiles and art.
Thursdays
sees a small book market. If you are looking for a cheap
paperback it's excellent, but it's not the place to find antique
and rare editions. The Farmers' Market runs on
Sundays, and offers locally grown organic foods, sold by the people
who
produce them.
