What: Originally founded in 1753 from several private collections, it rapidly became the finest Museum in existence. Its unrivalled collections are comprised in the departments of coins and medals, Egyptian antiquities, Western Asiatic antiquities, Greek and Roman antiquities (including the famous Elgin Marbles), British and Medieval antiquities and Oriental antiquities.
