Historically borough market was a wholesale fruit and vegetable
market, but in recent years a very popular weekend fine food retail
market has been established.
The fruit and
veg market runs in the early hours, but it is the very successful
weekend gourmet retail market, consisting of up to 70 stalls and
stands, which attracts most Londoners and tourist to borough market.
Producers from
all over the country bring a range of fresh produce to the market,
including; fish, meats, vegetables, ciders, wines, cheeses, breads,
coffees, cakes and patisseries. Other stalls specialise in produce
imported from abroad and a number cook their wares, making this
an ideal lunch-time stop.
