Where: St
Martin's Lane, WC2N 5AU
What: A
monsoon on the arabian sea wrecks a ship on the rocks. Twins
Viola and Sebastian, are separated, and when Viola is eventually
washed ashore on the island of Illyria the complications begin.
This new production of Shakespeare’s comedy transposes the action
from Illyria to contemporary India. The creative team have chosen
India, as “the place which most closely resembles Shakespeare’s
London today”. With its honour codes, the rules of marriage, holy
men, beliefs and the significance of festival, the Indian setting
is intended to find a fresh, contemporary relevance for the world
of the play.
